How to setup RSS Surf Break Report

RSS Stands for Really Simple Syndication (Also known as web feeds)

You will find RSS Feeds at the bottom of every Surf Break or Event Photo Gallery. If you click on the link "Add to RSS Report" you will open the .xml file which includes the RSS information.

Your RSS reader will tell you when there are new postings for your Chosen Surf Break.

What RSS Reader Shall I Use?

You can use many different RSS readers. We use "RSS Reader" which is free and seems to work fine and you can download here. You can choose a different one if you prefer.

My Yahoo

If you have a Yahoo mail account, you will have a MyYahoo button on it where it shows you news stories. You can supplement or replace these stories with ShareSurf posting titles of your choice. For example Umdloti Beach.

Website owners

If you own a website you can use RSS to have relevant ShareSurf content appearing on your site. You must credit this information to ShareSurf by putting a link to ShareSurf as the original source.

Getting Started
All you need in order to add your photos to ShareSurf is a normal camera and computer with an email facility, or a mobile phone with a camera. Generally we have found that mobile cameras with at least a 1 mega pixel resolution work best and anything over 1.3 mega pixels kicks butt.

It is important to ensure that you have activated Multimedia Messaging (MMS) on your phone as this is the key that allows you to send pictures to other mobile phones or to an email address.

Advertise your business
If your are a local business you should ensure that your Business Name, Business Address, and Business Telephone Number appear under each photo you send to ShareSurf. A few pictures a day are the easiest and cheapest way to ensure your business remains top of mind to those visiting your beach most often.

Add your favourite Surf Breaks to your Profile
Once logged in all your personal favourite surf spots will be available on your custom home page. You can then manage your Favourites list by adding or deleting them and even adding them to your list of Surf Break Email Reports.

Have Surf Break Report(s) emailed to you
Depending on the photos we have received you may receive an email report up to three times a day containing the last 10 images taken at your Surf Break. The standard times for these reports are 9am, 12pm, and 3pm.
